Breaking Lease For Relocation
Question: Does relocating for work allow me to break a lease without penalty?
Good morning. I believe I will be relocating from my job at Whirlpool in St. Joseph, Michigan, to out of State for work in the near future. I'm curious if this will allow me to break my lease without paying the two - three months rent that my leasing company says I'll have to pay. I've heard that some states have laws that allow you to break your lease for relocation and I guess I need to know if Michigan is one of those states or not. Thanks a million!
Answer: No, Michigan does not have such a law. Good luck with your move. Perhaps if you leave your apartment in good/move in condition, the Landlord will make some accommodation. But the law does not require them to.
