Forfeit Land Contract
Question: I am interested in finding out what will happen if I vacate a property in Benton Harbor, Michigan, that I am buying on land contract. I will be handing the title back over to the person I am buying it from but I can no longer afford all the unexpected repairs that he was aware of but did not inform us of. What can he do to me?
Answer: The Land Contract Vendor could go to court and get a judgment against you for forfeiture of the Land Contract or a money judgment. What you want to do is to negotiate a release of all liability in exchange for deeding the property back to the Seller. An Attorney can help you do this.
